Facade

I wear a cloak of calming stillness,
betrayed by my eyes this night.
They grow wilder each passing second,
reflecting a torrid inner light.

This facade abides with the sun
a crutch to hobble through the day,
but in the moist air of the evening,
security is wrenched sharply away.

Yellow lights spill on this pond and path,
and soft waters gurgle in tune;
let the world gaze at my false smiles
and fall for my sweet-wrapped gloom.
